The “Food for Life 2023” project is implemented with financial support from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The project provides monthly food assistance to people receiving treatment in hospitals, particularly those affected by the war in Ukraine, people from groups vulnerable to HIV and TB, and their close contacts. The project also includes the delivery of food packages to hospital catering units.
Project implementation period: January 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025

Food products are provided to healthcare facilities at the rate of one food package per patient.

Each food package contains:

● 3 kg of flour
● 2 kg of pasta
● 0.5 kg of oatmeal
● 1 bottle of vegetable oil (0.920 kg)

Total package weight: 6.42 kg

Monthly deliveries: 12,000–15,000 food packages per month.

Care and Support Program for People Living with HIV in Kyiv and Kyiv Region

Implemented within the framework of public procurement of healthcare services funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Project implementation period: February 5, 2025 – December 31, 2025

Goal: To ensure a sustainable response to the spread of HIV and reduce the incidence of AIDS in Kyiv and Kyiv Region.

Objective: To promote adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) and prevent treatment interruptions.

Counseling for people living with HIV (PLHIV) follows a structured approach consisting of six face-to-face sessions and telephone reminders. Each session lasts between 20 and 40 minutes.

Session topics:
● Introduction and completion of initial documentation;
● What are HIV and HIV infection;
● Antiretroviral therapy: treatment regimens and side effects;
● Taking care of one’s health;
● Reproductive health;
● Regular medical follow-up;
● Final session — assessment of treatment adherence.

HIV Prevention Program for a Population at Highest Risk of HIV Infection — Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM)

Implemented within the framework of public procurement of healthcare services funded by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Project implementation period: January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025

Goal: To reduce the spread of HIV, with a particular focus on populations at highest risk of HIV infection.

Services:
● HIV, syphilis, and viral hepatitis B and C testing;
● Counseling on safer sexual practices and the prevention of socially significant diseases;
● Social support for people who test positive for HIV to ensure linkage to HIV care and initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART);
● Screening for symptoms of tuberculosis;
● Distribution of condoms and lubricants.

Key project activities supported by 100%LIFE:

Support for HIV-positive pregnant women, mothers, and children:

● Prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and prevention of child abandonment among children born to HIV-positive mothers through the provision of a comprehensive package of support services;

● Reducing the spread of HIV by providing comprehensive psychosocial support to children living with HIV to promote treatment adherence, social adaptation, acceptance of their HIV status and living with it, safer behavior, and reduction of self-stigma, stigma, and discrimination from an early age.

Promoting treatment adherence and re-engaging PLHIV in treatment:

● Re-engaging HIV-positive people who have been lost to medical follow-up in the healthcare system. Identifying and addressing barriers that prevent HIV-positive people from taking ART regularly and continuously, facilitating ART initiation or re-initiation, and building sustained treatment adherence among clients who have experienced treatment interruptions;

● Maintaining high treatment adherence among PLHIV in Kyiv and Kyiv Region by ensuring continuity of antiretroviral treatment despite war-related constraints, including 4,530 ART deliveries.

Support for people undergoing tuberculosis treatment:

● Ensuring continuity of treatment for patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis through social support, strengthened cooperation with TB services, and a client-centered approach aimed at improving TB treatment outcomes. Identifying new cases of active TB by engaging professional and community contacts in screening (second-circle contacts);

● Ensuring continuity of treatment for patients with drug-sensitive tuberculosis through social support, strengthened cooperation with TB services, and a client-centered approach aimed at improving TB treatment outcomes. Identifying new cases of active TB by engaging professional and community contacts in screening (second-circle contacts).

Support for prisoners and people serving non-custodial sentences:

● Preventing HIV transmission and reducing HIV incidence among prisoners and convicted persons in penitentiary institutions in Kyiv Region;

● Improving the quality of HIV counseling and testing in penitentiary institutions in Kyiv Region for 2,599 prisoners and convicted persons, increasing the detection of new HIV cases, and ensuring timely access to treatment for HIV-positive people held in institutions of the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine;

● Improving the quality of life of HIV-positive people, reducing the risk of HIV transmission, and reducing morbidity and mortality from AIDS-related illnesses among people held in penitentiary institutions in Kyiv Region;

● Reducing the transmission of opportunistic infections in penitentiary institutions by ensuring access to examinations aimed at preventing complications associated with HIV infection;

● Protecting the health of HIV-positive people in penitentiary institutions and reducing the number of PLHIV with advanced stages of HIV disease by ensuring access to immunological testing (CD4).

Key project activities supported by the Alliance for Public Health (APH):

● Micro-elimination of HCV among key populations, including PLHIV and people with TB, people who inject drugs (PWID) with HCV mono-infection or co-infection and their partners, men who have sex with men (MSM), and sex workers (SW);

● HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among PWID;

● HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among sex workers;

● Reaching hard-to-reach MSM through the Peer-Driven Intervention (PDI) model;

● Case management/community-supported treatment (CITI) for HIV-positive clients reached through PDI, PrEP, and HIV self-testing components;

● HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among MSM;

● HIV self-testing for sexual partners of PWID, sex workers, MSM, and transgender people.
